About me
I am looking to meet men and women who would like to go to the theatre, film, art exhibitions in Hobart. An Australian citizen, I lived in England until nine years ago when I met my former partner and travelled around Australia. I could not work as an English Teacher here so did a lot of volunteering with the CVA, The Story Island Project, the Wooden Boat and Antarctic Festivals and the Festival of Voices. I love the nature, beauty and wonderful sense of community in Hobart, along with the art exhibitions, live music, lectures, events, Film, Theatre, walking, cycling, tennis, Philosophy clubs and anything that lets me connect to people, ideas, enjoyment and life. Most of my family and friends I've known for decades are in Britain, and I'd like to make lifelong friends here in Hobart. I miss the close friendship and sharing laughter and good times. If you seek this then maybe we can set up a simple way for a few of us to meet under these strange times under Covid19.
Things I like
- Interests:
- Nature, walking, literature, films, theatre, festivals, photography, art, events, festivals, ideas, issues and ecology.
- Music:
- Contemporary folk like The Unthanks, Matt Dames, the best Hobart busker. Keane, Muse, London Grammar, Mercury Prize winners, Tinie Tempah, Antony and the Johnsons, The Smiths and Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys, and good new stuff on YouTube.
- Reading:
- Literature as taught in the English curriculum, UK, Australia, etc. Burial Rites by Hannah Kent was one of the best. Adore Richard Flanagan. The Narrow Road to the Far North was superb. Just read The Reconstructionist by Josephine Hart and recommend it. Also like the odd popular bestseller such as Gone Girl and Girl on a Train.
- Movies/TV:
- Shine, Black Klansman, anything that's won or nominated for Oscars, BAFTAs. Most on SBS on demand, especially great world cinema. I like stand-up comedy such as Live at the Apollo, Gameface, Les Miserables, Doc Martin, Kath and Kim, Utopia, Rosehaven and Four Corners, etc about important issues.
- Food/dining:
- I'm interested in healthy, simple vegetarian, trying vegan. I hate cooking so love to keep it simple and quick, unless I'm eating out. Then the chef at Mona's The Source can wow me with the sublime concoctions they create.
- Sports/fitness:
- Walking, cycling, tennis, dancing, Zumba, sailing.
